The first step is to recheck your vehicle documents, and then generate a Destruction Certificate. After this, all the documents are submitted to the relevant RTO for deregistration of the Vehicle. The documents include the affidavit and indemnity bond that you have signed along with your original RC and chassis cutout. The time taken in the process depends on the RTO of that particular location.
